FIR on complaint by Under Secretary

A senior government official on Monday approached the Delhi Police with a complaint that a fake letter issued by the Cabinet Secretariat about digitisation of land records was being circulated with his forged signature.

A case was registered on the complaint of Sheo Nath Singh, an Under Secretary in the government, whose signature is present on the letter, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B.K. Singh.

Mr. Sheo Nath Singh said the letter mandated all Chief Secretaries and Additional Chief Secretaries to “complete the digitisation of land records, sale and purchase records from 1950… by August 14.”

The letter also stated that the government was considering linking Aadhaar numbers with the ownership of the said properties, in the failure of which they would be considered for action under “Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amended Act, 2016”. In his complaint, Mr. Sheo Nath Singh wrote, “The letter was neither issued by the Cabinet Secretariat nor signed by the undersigned. The signature and the letter itself were forged.”
