Girl turns hostile, court frees ‘killer’ of her beau

A Delhi court has acquitted a friend of a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader in a murder case, stating that “the prosecution failed to complete the chain of evidence against accused Adesh Chaudhary”.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Chaudhary had in 2006 allegedly abducted and killed the boyfriend of the niece of the leader as her family was against her entering into a wedlock with victim Shailender.

‘Inconclusive’

Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma gave the benefit of doubt to the accused on the grounds that the victim’s girlfriend did not support the prosecution’s case and the police could not trace Shailender’s body.

The case was based on circumstantial evidence as there was no eyewitness or direct evidence to connect the accused to the murder.

“Not only is the chain of evidence broken at a number of places, the prosecution has failed to show that the accused committed the murder... The circumstances established by the prosecution are not conclusive,” the court stated.
