‘Geetika’s father, brother attacked in court’

The brother of deceased former air-hostess Geetika Sharma has alleged that he and his father were beaten up by former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda’s lawyers and supporters at a Rohini court here on Wednesday. The lawyer, in turn, has made similar allegations against the father-son duo.

Mr. Kanda and his former colleague Aruna Chadha are facing trial for abetting Geetika’s suicide.

The incident occurred when the two parties were deciding on the next date of hearing in the Geetika suicide case. Ankit said that he and his father Dinesh Sharma had gone to the court of Additional Sessions Judge Yashwant Kumar for the hearing but the judge was absent.

“Mr. Kanda’s lawyers, R.S. Malik and Kapil Sangla, asked the court’s reader to fix the next date of hearing between October and November but we insisted on September. The two lawyers started abusing me and my father. They pushed me into the witness box and kicked me on my face and stomach. I informed the police,” said Ankit.

He alleged that Mr. Kanda’s supporters launched a second attack on him. “I again dialled 100, after which they left,” he said.

The police also conducted medical examinations of Ankit and Dinesh. Police sources said that Dinesh’s medical examination has not revealed any injuries while Ankit’s report was awaited.

Mr. Malik denied the charges levelled by Ankit and said it was he and his father who attacked them. “We requested the reader to adjourn the case, because we have to attend other cases. The matter was adjourned till October 17. Ankit then caught hold of my junior colleague, Rajbir, and slapped him. His father, Dinesh, also assaulted Rajbir,” he said.
