Gang involved in DU college admission racket busted

The Delhi Police have busted a racket that helped students get admissions to a prestigious DU college on the basis of forged documents.

The accused arrested in this connection include a student of a prominent South Delhi college.

“On Monday, we received information that the kingpin of the gang would come to Dwarka in a Ford Endeavour. A trap was laid and Arvind Yadav (28), a resident of Gurgaon, Haryana, was apprehended,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Chand.

Forged documents and a forged stamp of a Doctor of Government Hospital were recovered from his possession and a case registered against him, said Mr. Chand.

Being a DU student, Yadav was aware about the loopholes in the admission process and decided to use them to his benefit. He roped in Daya Ram (36) of Bulandsahar, U.P., who arranged forged documents including educational certificates.

According to Mr. Chand, Arvind Yadav got three students admitted on the basis of forged documents in a South Delhi college of Delhi University in 2013.

In the year 2014, the accused got admissions for at least 10 students on the basis of forged marksheets, caste certificates, transfer certificates, character certificates and physical disability certificates in the prestigious college.

“Relevant documents of these students have been obtained from the college concerned and are being scrutinised. Daya Ram and Mukesh Mann have been arrested,” said Mr. Chand.

The accused used to charge Rs.3 lakh to Rs.5 lakh from the prospective students, police said.
