Gandhi Nagar rape probe handed over to Crime Branch

A 5-year-old was raped in an east Delhi school last week

Investigation into the rape of a five-year-old girl inside a school in east Delhi last week would be transferred to the Crime Branch, the Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

“We received a notification that the case is to be transferred to the Crime Branch from the district police in the evening. The case will now be investigated by our team,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Praveer Ranjan.

The Class I student of a private school in Gandhi Nagar was allegedly raped by a school peon on September 9.

The incident came a day after a seven-year-old boy was allegedly murdered inside Ryan International School in Gurugram by a bus conductor.

‘Parents harassed’

Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi Health and Home Minister Satyendar Jain received a complaint through Gandhi Nagar MLA Anil Kumar Bajpai that the victim’s parents had been harassed by the school authorities and the local police.

As per the complaint, the victim’s parents were called to the local police station many times.

Mr. Jain had asked for the probe to be handed over to the Crime Branch in order to make sure the investigation was impartial, said a senior government official. The police, however, said they had been cooperating with the victim and her family.

‘Part of protocol’

“They’ve been called to the police station only a few times as part of the protocol; for identification of accused and reconstruction of the incident. We’ve called them as per their convenience,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad.
