AAP had blamed him for the incident

Gautam Gambhir

Newly elected East Delhi BJP MP and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir attacked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over a “dirty pamphlet” against AAP leader Atishi, which he was accused of being behind, here on Saturday. Elections would come and go but one cannot afford to lose “one’s conscience”, Mr. Gambhir said.

Mr. Gambhir defeated Ms. Atishi with a comfortable margin. He had been accused by AAP of being involved in the distribution of “obscene and derogatory” pamphlets against her during election campaign.

“I do not have any words for him if he can level such allegation just to win a seat. You can lose an election and move ahead but how can one face himself after losing his conscience...Elections will come and go, the day you lose your conscience you lose everything,” he said addressing the media at the BJP’s Delhi unit office here along with other newly elected party MPs’ from the city.

‘Was using a duplicate’

Reacting to his comments, Meanwhile, AAP said, “We offer our best wishes to all seven BJP MPs and expect them to work on Delhi Police, DDA and MCD...Gautam Gambhir was cheating the public using his duplicate to campaign in hot afternoon while he was sitting in AC car. Public will forgive him only if he himself meets people on dusty and sunny roads of Delhi.”
