“In the current case, in spite of severely polluting industries, damages have not been recovered. We direct the DPCC to forthwith perform its duties instead of abandoning the same…it is open to the Delhi government to take action against erring officers and recover the amount from the polluters,” the Bench said.
Further, the Bench added, “Not a single rupee has been collected from the polluters even after finding that certain units were operating without consent. As the air quality in Delhi being extensive, precautionary measures are required. Huge amounts must be recovered as damages for any illegal activities found.”
The directions came after the green panel took suo-motu cognisance of media reports, which stated that industries in Mayapuri were spewing toxic fumes, adding to air pollution.
