Funds for library to be cut, says JNUSU

Published - November 17, 2018 01:41 am IST - New Delhi

The Jawaharlal Nehru Students’ Union (JNUSU) said the university administration told the students on Friday about cuts in library funds due to the University Grants Commission (UGC) changing the budgeting format.

The union said the students were informed about these cuts during the Library Advisory Committee meeting on Friday.

The JNUSU alleged this was yet another step towards privatisation of JNU, since the library will now have to raise funds from other sources.

‘End of research’

The administration told the students that as per the changed budgeting format, money will be sent for specific heads and transfer of funds from one head to another will be impossible.

The students said if such budget cuts come into force, it will be the end of research at the university since as renewal of various e-journals and e-subscriptions would be impossible.

The university administration did not comment on the issue.
