After scanning footage from over 75 CCTV cameras installed in and around Ghazipur, the Delhi Police on Thursday said it had managed to obtain a picture of the man who allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl on her neighbour’s terrace late on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh confirmed the development and said the picture of the suspect has been circulated among informers and police personnel.
“The accused is not from the victim’s locality. We suspect he is from some other area. We are trying to establish his identity. The victim was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday itself and is doing fine,” Mr. Singh added.

20 persons picked
The police said nearly 20 people were picked up for questioning to obtain leads in the case but were released later. The police had earlier suspected that the accused belonged to Ghazipur.
Mr. Singh said more than 100 police personnel, including special staff, are investigating the case to arrest the accused. He said attempts are being made to arrest him at the earliest.

“We are also reaching out to locals, in case one of them had seen the suspect in the locality earlier,” said the senior officer.
Had lured victim
The accused had on Tuesday night lured to victim to her neighbour’s terrace with the promise to giving her a biscuit packet. He allegedly disrobed and threatened her with dire consequences before forcing himself on her.
He accused had threatened to strangulate and throw her off the terrace if she raised an alarm before assaulting her. The girl had told the police that he accompanied her downstairs, left her near the gate and walked away in the opposite direction. She claimed he did not allow her to take her clothes.
A shopkeeper who spotted her walking naked on the road wrapped her in a blanket before alerting the neighbours and the girl’s parents.
