The Jaipur-Delhi carriageway of Hero Honda Chowk flyover was closed to traffic for one week on Monday to carry out repair works after a chunk of concrete fell off the structure over a month ago.

National Highways Authority of India project director Ashok Sharma said in a written statement that repair work on the flyover was being carried out by Valecha Engineering Ltd., based on the report of the IIT-Bombay.

He said the carriageway was closed to traffic in view of safety and security of commuters.
A chunk of concrete had fallen off the flyover in April, creating doubts about the quality of material used in construction. The flyover was opened in March last year.
The 1.4-km-long flyover was constructed as part of a three-layer crossing — flyover, underpass and existing road — at Hero Honda Chowk at a cost of ₹198 crore.

Work on the project had started on November 25, 2014, and a deadline of 30 months was set for completion as per the contract.
Traffic snarls
Meanwhile, closure of the flyover led to long traffic snarls on National Highway-48 in the evening, causing inconvenience to commuters.
“Closure of the carriageway has created a bottleneck near the flyover, causing traffic to slow down. The traffic stretched several metres in the evening. Though the police were present to manage traffic, the sheer volume of it and the big vehicles led to long traffic snarls,” said Rakesh Kumar, a daily commuter.
The jam on the National Highway also had a spill-over effect on the service road and the road leading to Sector 10.
