A case of alleged kidnapping, rape and murder of a priest’s five-year-old daughter has left Kanawani in Indirapuram tense.

According to the FIR in the case, the girl was playing outside her house on Friday afternoon when she went missing. She could not be traced despite an intensive search. Later, neighbours found her body on the first floor of an under-construction building around 11.30 p.m. on Friday night.

The girl, who was about to enter pre-school, was cremated on Saturday morning. Her family has accused a 19-year-old boy, who had reportedly come to the area from Bihar 10 days ago. The police are now on the lookout for the boy, who was last seen offering water to the victim.

A senior police officer said that prima facie it appeared to be a case of sexual assault and murder. “We have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and are awaiting the autopsy report. Until then, the father of the 19-year-old boy has been detained,” the officer added.

According to the police, a case of kidnapping was lodged initially. But, more sections may be added once the autopsy report is out.

The locals, meanwhile, demanded that the suspect be handed over to them.

“We are in shock. There was blood coming out of her nostrils and her body bore injury marks. Her clothes were in disarray. We want the accused to be arrested immediately,” the victim’s father said.
