Over 25,000 policemen would be deployed as part of an elaborate security arrangement that is being laid out for Independence Day celebrations in the Capital on August 15.
The Delhi Police have received general intelligence inputs on possibility of terrorist and disruptive activities in the run-up to Independence Day. “The entire force has been kept on alert. Apart from Delhi Police personnel and officers, about 20 companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed. National Security Guard commandos and snipers will be part of the arrangement,” said a police officer. The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and quick response teams (QRTs) would also be involved in the security.
Anti-aircraft guns have been installed at strategic positions around the historic Red Fort to thwart any airborne attack. Over three dozen closed-circuit television cameras have also been installed to keep a close watch on the activities of visitors.

Anti-sabotage checks are being carried out at the venue and security is being reviewed regularly to ensure that all loopholes are plugged. The residential areas located near Red Fort are also being sanitised and tenant verifications are being carried out.
During the function on August 15, the airspace around the celebration venue would be declared a no-fly zone. Borders would also be sealed. “Aerial surveillance will be carried out using helicopters. More security personnel will be deployed at the airport, railway and metro stations and bus terminals besides all sensitive installations. We have asked owners of hotels, guesthouses, cyber cafes and vehicle dealers to remain alert and immediately inform us about any suspicious person,” said the officer, adding that other emergency services have also been activated.
