The upcoming Delhi Assembly elections will debut the Election Commission’s ‘Booth app’, which will automate real-time collection and display of booth-wise voter data, Chief Election Officer Ranbir Singh said on Monday.

Using the mobile application, once a voter enters a particular booth, their identification will be scanned by officials and their details will be automatically verified, Mr. Singh said. Following this, the voter will be “logged out” once they have cast their ballot, he added.

While pilot versions of the app had been deployed at by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana, the Delhi Assembly elections will see the full implementation of the app, Mr. Singh said. Details of the app were shared at a meeting of the officials of the Election Commission of India with the State election officials and others to review poll preparedness and gear up for the polls.

According to officials, the app will allow for different types of information, such as demographic data and voter turnout, to be collected and updated in real time. Through the app, voters can also check queues at their polling booths and time their visit accordingly.
