Eatery owner killed over payment of two rotis

Victim’s brother hospitalised; accused arrested

Following an argument over payment for two rotis , the owner of an eatery in Okhla and his brother were attacked with a meat skewer by three customers on Monday night. While the owner was killed, his brother sustained grievous injuries. The accused have been arrested.

The incident took place in South-East Delhi’s Okhla Sabzi Mandi area around 10 p.m. when the accused entered into an argument with the victim over the food bill.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old Yusuf, died on the spot, while his 30-year-old brother, Nawab, is currently hospitalised.

A senior police officer said the accused had allegedly taken two extra

rotis but were unwilling to pay the extra amount on the total bill of Rs.250. This resulted in the confrontation. The accused first abused the brothers verbally and when the duo resisted, the accused attacked them with skewers and injured Yusuf seriously. Nawab tried to help his brother but he himself was injured.

A call was made to the Police Control Room by another shopkeeper, but before the police arrived, the accused had fled. The two victims where rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre where Yusuf was pronounced dead on arrival and Nawab is undergoing treatment.

The police launched an investigation and eye witness accounts helped them to identify the accused as all of them were residents of the same area. The accused, identified as Rashid (26), Mohamad Akram (21) and Sahib (19), were all picked up from their homes. They have vegetable shops in the Okhla Mandi.
