DU holds open house for aspirants

University will set up help desk from June 1

Aspirants were shown how to fill forms at the open house organised by Delhi University on Friday. The initiative will continue on Saturday.

Less than 24 hours after giving their Class XII CBSE economics examination, several undergraduate admission seekers participated in an open house organised by Delhi University (DU) on Friday to familiarise applicants with the admission process for the 2018 session.

The university announced that the admission portal, along with the complete information bulletin that provides details about cut-offs and eligibility, will go live in the second week of May.

Officer on Special Duty (Admission) Ashutosh Bharadwaj said the university organised a session on how to fill the form even before the registration process starts so that students can prepare the documents required and avoid last-minute panic.

Mistakes in forms

“We had received grievances last year stating that students were not allowed to make changes once they submitted the forms. And they often missed the opportunity to study in DU due to careless mistakes in the form. For example, nearly 10% of the students last year filled the wrong gender field in the form. There is nothing the university can do if an applicant makes such an error,” Mr. Bharadwaj said.

Often mistakes arise because students do not fill the form themselves, he added.

Mr. Bharadwaj also urged them to avoid getting their form filled by others.

Sports, ECA quotas

Deputy Dean Students’ Welfare Gurpreet Tuteja demonstrated how to fill the form and took feedback from the participants on changes that could be made.

“This year, there is only one form for merit-based courses and entrance-based course at the undergraduate level. Students opting for sports quota as well as ECA admissions will also have to fill the same form. At the end of the process, depending on what courses the student has chosen, a different application fee will be charged. Students will also have to provide their bank account numbers so that any refunds while taking admission are remitted instantly,” Mr. Tuteja said.

The admission form will cost ₹150 for general category and ₹75 for reserved category applicants. Through this form, they can apply to any number of merit-based courses.

Additional charges

Additional charges will apply for sports and ECA quotas, and entrance-based courses.

The university will set up a help desk from June 1 at the Conference Centre to deal with queries. The open house will continue for the second day on Saturday at 10 a.m.
