Drug smuggling accused held

A 45-year-old man allegedly involved in smuggling of micro crystal pseudoephedrine has been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. The Police claim to have seized from him a consignment worth Rs.80 lakh in the international market.

The narcotics unit of the Crime Branch received a tip-off that a resident of New Kardampuri had illegally been supplying controlled drugs to his clients. The police arrested the suspect in Chandni Chowk on Friday with a huge consignment of micro crystal pseudoephedrine.

During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Kishan Pal. He was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He disclosed that he belongs to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. He previously worked as a casual labourer at Bhagirath Place in Chandni Chowk, a wholesale market for legitimate sale of drugs to authorised persons.

In 2003, Kishan Pal came in contact with one Ram Vraksh. He lured the accused into the illicit business for supply of controlled drugs. The same year the two were arrested by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi Police allegedly with 25 kg of psychotropic drugs. Kishan Pal remained in jail for about three years and then got out on bail.
