Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told the Delhi High Court on Monday that he had not given his counsel Ram Jethmalani any instructions to use objectionable remarks against Union Minister Arun Jaitley in a defamation case filed by the latter.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief also said that he had written to Mr. Jethmalani to refute his claim that objectionable words were used in the May 17 proceedings before the Joint Registrar as per his instructions.

In an affidavit, Mr. Kejriwal said it was “inconceivable that he would even think of instructing the senior counsel to use such objectionable words”. The Chief Minister denied Mr. Jaitley’s charge that questions with derogatory remarks were “clearly designed to insult and/or annoy” him. He added that he had instructed his counsel on record, Anupam Srivastava, to remind Mr. Jethmalani that no such instructions were issued during his meeting with him.
Mr. Jethmalani, during the May 17 proceedings, had claimed that the words he used were in pursuance to instructions received from the AAP supremo.
