‘Develop process for rejected building permits’

SDMC holds workshop to take feedback and increase awareness about reforms

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Commissioner Puneet Goyel instructed officials on Wednesday to develop a process for appealing against rejected construction permits.

Mr. Goyel issued the directions during an interactive workshop with architects and engineers registered with the corporation.

The SDMC, which is the nodal body for all the three corporations for ensuring streamlining of the process of applying for construction permits, held the workshop to take feedback from residents and increase awareness of reforms taken to make the application of construction permits easier, the commissioner said.

Mr. Goyel said the efforts were being made to reduce the number of procedures involved in obtaining construction permits from 16 to nine, and to reduce the number of days to obtain the sanction from 91 to 37 days.

Ease of applying construction permits form a part of the ease of doing business rankings released by the World Bank.

For India, the rankings currently look at only Mumbai and Delhi. This year, India’s ranking in terms of construction permits jumped to 52, from 181 in 2017, the corporation said in a statement.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary D.S. Mishra, also present at the event, said that the reforms undertaken to improve ease of doing business were being replicated in 1,450 cities across the country.
