The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) on Thursday accepted in principle the Aam Aadmi Party government’s decision to penalise power discoms for unscheduled power cuts.
Despite maintaining that provisions of such nature are already in place, the power regulator has now proposed amendments to the Delhi Electricity Supply Code and Performance Standards Regulations, 2007, to implement the Delhi government’s directive.
The DERC has invited suggestions and objections from the public on the amendments within 10 days, after which it will notify the penalty system. Calling it the Delhi Electricity Supply Code and Performance Standards (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2015, the power regulator has clearly specified the types of problem in electricity supply, the maximum time for resolution of the issue by discoms and the penalty to be imposed on failure to do so.
