Dense fog disrupts flights, train services

Dense fog hit the Capital on Sunday morning affecting air and rail traffic. The first dense fog of the season led to suspension of flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport here for over an hour in the morning, resulting in almost 20 flights getting delayed and two cancelled.

After the dense fog hit the airport around 7 a.m. the general visibility dropped to 50 metres while the runway visibility was 75 metres, making it almost impossible for any flight to arrive and depart. The situation improved only after 8.30 a.m. when visibility improved to 300 metres. Railway sources said over 50 trains were running late from 12 to 20 hours, including five Rajdhanis which were running late by 8-9 hours. The Railways have also rescheduled over 40 trains.

Vehicles had their fog lights on as visibility dropped to near zero levels. The minimum temperature was 5.9 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal and down from Saturday’s 6.2. Delhi has been witnessing comparatively warmer days in the past couple of days.
