The Delhi Tamil Sangam will inaugurate its first free legal aid camp in the Capital on Sunday with focus on providing legal services, especially to the poor within the community.
“Legal help in Delhi is very expensive. There are many crucial issues being faced by Tamil people who have migrated to Delhi in search of jobs and opportunities. Language for many is a problem. The Delhi Tamil Sangam has been receiving many requests for help in this issue,” G. Sivabalamurugan, Supreme Court advocate and executive committee member of the Sangam, said. The legal aid camp, to be inaugurated by former Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court M. Karpaga Vinayagam, would be held every two months.
Mr. Sivabalamurugan said at least 250 people are expected to approach the Sangam’s legal aid cell and panel of experts with their legal problems.

“Many of the problems they face deal with non-compliance by educational institutions of the mandatory 25 percent quota for weaker sections under the Right to Education Act, non-issuance of caste certificates, etc. People who have recently migrated to Delhi from Tamil Nadu are mainly residing in slum clusters here, many face eviction as their colonies are not regularised,” he said.
The inaugural function would be held at Thiruvalluvar Kalai Arangam in R.K. Puram. Other guests include A.S. Jayachandra, Family Court judge at Karkadooma Court Complex; Jitender Singh, Secretary, Delhi Legal Service Authority; P. Karunakaran IPS, Vice-principal, Delhi Police Training College; and A. Nedunchelian, Deputy Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Narela.
