March 02, 2014 09:54 am | Updated May 19, 2016 05:44 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A 65-year-old street food vendor was allegedly stabbed to death by a 28-year-old man in Sultanpuri here on Saturday morning after he refused to give a plate of chhole kulchey to him on credit.

According to the police, the incident took place at 9 a.m. on Saturday when the victim Shashiram had just set up his food stall in Aman Vihar and was waiting for his first customer. Incidentally, the first customer was the accused Gurmeet. He asked for a plate of chhole kulchey and Shahsiram asked him to pay Rs. 20 since it was the first order of the day.

“Gurmeet refused to make a payment despite Shashiram asking him to give whatever money he had. This led to an argument and Gurmeet stabbed him thrice in his chest and abdomen and ran away from the place,” said a police officer.

Shashiram was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he died during treatment.

The locals told the police that Shashiram’s son Harichand also assists him at the stall everyday, but he had gone to get water at the time of the incident.

Gurmeet was later arrested by the police from his house. A case of murder has been registered at the Sultanpuri police station.
