A case has been registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code and under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, against some persons who staged a protest against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi outside Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) here on Wednesday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Mourice Nagar police station, a group of 100-odd people suddenly came out from the Arts Faculty raising slogans, “Modi Go Back”, and holding placards and banners around 3 p.m. and broke the first barricade. The FIR says that the protesters beat up the policemen when the latter tried to stop them and reached the second barricade near gate no. 3 of SRCC. Despite repeated warnings by the Station House Officer concerned, the protesters climbed the second barricade as well and tried to break it.
Anticipating an altercation between the protesters and the Modi supporters the police used water cannons to disperse them, but the protesters entered into a scuffle with the police causing injuries to several policemen, says the FIR.

The case has been registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
