On a day when the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had made special arrangements to run extra trips to deal with the festive rush on Raksha Bandhan, passengers commuting on the Yellow Line had a harrowing experience.
“Train services on Line-2 [Yellow] between Chhatarpur and HUDA City Centre were affected today [Sunday] from 9.55 a.m. to 12.40 p.m. due to problem in overhead wires leading to tripping of power supply in this section,” said DMRC officials.
The nearly three-hour halt in services left metro stations extremely crowded with Delhiites taking to Twitter to share updates of people stranded and warning people not to take the metro if they were heading towards Gurugram.

“As a result, passengers from four trains, which were in this section, had to be deboarded [at Guru Dronacharya, Sikanderpur UP/Down, IFFCO Chowk]. Thereafter, physical identification for the exact location of defective overhead wire was carried out by maintenance team,” said a DMRC official.
He also said that once the affected location was identified at 12 pm, the repair was done within 15 minutes and OHE supply to the affected section was restored at 12:15 pm. Metro services were normal at 12.40 p.m.
During this period, train services on rest of the Line-2 section from Samaypura Badli to Qutab Minar were running normal.
