Commuters of the Delhi metro are not quite happy with station premises being crowded due to encroachments. A latest survey has revealed that while people are largely satisfied with metro services, they also want improvements in pavements and lighting of surrounding areas.

Much to the relief of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the results of its survey conducted from August 24 to September 1, 2015 have not been very negative. The commuters were asked to rate the services on the scale – excellent, very good, good, satisfactory and need improvement. The survey indicated that overall, commuters rated the Delhi Metro as “very good”.

However, the issue of hawkers encroaching the station premises seems to be quite an irritant for most of the commuters. “A lot of commuters have expressed the need for clearing encroachments outside station premises. Then they also want improvement in pavements, lighting and cleanliness. We will take up these issues with the civic authorities and work towards necessary improvement,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director (Corporate Communications), DMRC. He added that largely people are satisfied with the metro and that barring a few, on almost all the parameters, the responses have ranged between “excellent” and “good.”

Covering 96,466 respondents across top 50 stations of the network, the survey included various crucial aspects of metro operations such as availability and accessibility, new facilities offered to customers, information, quality of service, customer services, outside metro area, comfort and view on fare revision, security and safety etc.

Many other specific subheads which focused on all the minute aspects of metro operations were also covered under these heads in the survey.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro has also been ranked first in the “information during travel” category, as per an international survey of Metro systems conducted by Railway and Transport Strategic Centre (RTSC). According to officials, DMRC has secured a second position in “train cleanliness and comfort.”
