Delhi govt. sets three-week deadline for repairing potholes

May 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

As part of its monsoon preparedness, the Delhi government has set a deadline of three weeks to repair all the potholes and rough patches on city roads under its authority.

PWD Minister Satyendra Jain said on Friday he has directed his department to repair the potholes and rough patches on all roads measuring 60 feet and above running into 1260 kilometres across the Capital within this deadline.

“Based on a survey conducted by the department, it has been found that 213 potholes were noticed, out of which 83 have been repaired. Total number of rough patches noticed on PWD roads have been mentioned at 1969 (roughly 25,500 square metres),” a statement from the government said.

The Minister said the department has been directed to convert this repair work into a mission mode. Mr. Jain claimed that the last such repair work on the roads in the Capital was carried out more than five years back.

Mr. Jain said traffic volume on these roads leads to a quick wear and tear. Hence, there is an urgent need to maintain the quality of roads for smooth flow of traffic and safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The Minister said he hoped that all the civic agencies, including the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations will also undertake such repairs to maintain the quality of roads under their control.
