Delhi gets new Syro-Malankara diocese

His Holiness Pope Francis has established a new diocese of St. John Chrysostom at Gurgaon for the Syro-Malankara Catholics and has appointed Bishop Jacob Barnabas as its first Bishop. His residence will be at Mar Ivanios Bhavan, Neb Sarai, New Delhi, and St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Church, Neb Sarai, will be the new cathedral.

Pope Francis also established a new exarchate for the Syro-Malankara Catholics at Khadki, Pune, and appointed Bishop Thomas Mar Anthonios, OIC as its first Exarch. St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Church, Khadki, Pune, will be the new cathedral and the residence and curia of the new Exarch will be in the cathedral complex, Khadki.

These provisions were made public in Rome this Thursday.
