Delhi Dialogue to discuss issues on healthcare this Saturday

The Delhi Dialogue Commission will organise a town hall meeting on private healthcare at Maulana Azad Medical College here on Saturday for making policy recommendations to the Delhi Government on various aspects of the subject.

The meeting will facilitate a dialogue with all stakeholders in private health enterprise, including doctors, nursing homes, hospitals, laboratories and diagnostic centres and people of the Capital.

Official sources said here on Wednesday that the town hall meeting would provide a constructive platform for discussion and help evolve a code of ethics and regulations for the private medical and healthcare sector, ushering in an era of “accountability and transparency” in the industry.

Issues on the anvil

The issues likely to be discussed in the meeting include overcharging by hospitals, referral practice, over-investigation, unwarranted surgeries, registration and standardisation of labs, standardised treatment protocols in the Indian scenario and over-the-counter drug sales.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain will inaugurate the meeting, while Delhi Dialogue Commission vice-chairman Ashish Khaitan will preside over the event.

According to the sources, the speakers will include Atul Gupta, Sandeep Budhiraja, Rajeev Tandon and heads of some leading private hospitals of the Capital.
