The MCD today sought to blame other agencies like the forest department for delay in construction of parking lots and other projects under Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Chairman of Works Committee Jagdish Mamgain said the delay is due to multiplicity of agencies. His comments follow reports that the MCD may lose Central funding for six of its multi-level parking projects under JNNURM as it failed to secure environment clearances for them.

The BJP leader also demanded that the Centre should provide 90 per cent of the money for JNNURM projects of the corporation as the MCD is a local agency. Under existing rules, the Central government gives 35 per cent of the money.

Mr. Mamgain also said the officials of Delhi government is giving “immature” statements regarding MCD and withdrawal of JNNURM funds by the Centre.

“It is not forgotten that in 2008-09 the Delhi government failed to provide proposals for JNNURM scheme and Rs 4,800 crore were withdrawn by the Centre. Before commenting on and questioning MCD, the Delhi government should first enquire about themselves,” he said.
