Manhunt on for the accused: police

A decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found in a room in south-west Delhi’s Moti Bagh on Thursday afternoon, the police said.

They received a PCR call at 1 p.m. from JJ cluster in Shastri Market regarding a foul smell emanating from a locked room.

A team reached the spot and broke open the door.

‘5-day old’

“A woman’s body, who appears to be in the early 40s, was recovered from the room. The body was lying on the floor. It was around five days old and in a highly decomposed state. The body was shifted to a mortuary for post-mortem,” said Devendra Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West).

The officer said the owner of the room was missing. He has been identified as Biran, a labourer.

“Biran had recently taken the room on rent. We are trying to trace him. The case is under investigation,” the officer said.

No visible injury marks were found on the deceased’s body, the police said, adding that she might be smothered. They are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
