Decomposed bodies of couple found in ‘Death Valley’

Deceased yet to be identified; possibility of honour killing not ruled out: police

Decomposed bodies of a couple were found in Badwali lake in an area called the ‘Death Valley’ here on Thursday, the police said.

The ‘Death Valley’ has seven abandoned Surajkund mines. It got the name after several deaths due to drowning were reported in its lakes.

A murder case has been registered at Surajkund police station in this matter and efforts are being made to identify the deceased.

The police said the locals informed them regarding a man’s body found in a lake in the area. A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team from Ghaziabad arrived on the spot and spotted a black bag floating in the vicinity of the man’s body.

The bag contained a woman’s body. She appears to be in her mid-20s while the man in early 30s, the police said. NDRF team then recovered both the bodies.

The woman has the word ‘Manisha’ tattooed on her left hand and was also wearing a steel bracelet.

She has a deep gash on her head, apparently caused by a sharp-edged weapon. No external injury marks were found on the man’s body, the police said.

Faridabad police spokesperson Sube Singh said prima facie, it appeared to be a case of murder. Both the bodies were shifted to a mortuary at B.K. Civil Hospital. Mr. Singh said the case was being investigated from all angles.

The police said details of missing persons were being procured from the neighbouring police stations to identify the deceased.

They suspect that the man could have committed suicide after killing the woman. The possibility of “honour killing” has not been ruled out, the police said.
