Successful allottees of LIG flats in Dwarka under the DDA Housing Scheme 2014 were on Saturday handed over allotment-cum-possession letters by Union Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu, who promised one lakh houses in Delhi in another two years.
The Minister handed over the letters to the first batch of allottees of LIG flats in Sector 23-B in Dwarka. In the beginning, he walked down the aisle among the allottees and congratulated them.
“I am really happy today [Saturday]. Right in the morning I am giving away allotment letters to people. To give a house to a person is not an easy job. It is the Narendra Modi government’s dream to give a house to every individual,” said Mr Naidu.

The allottees were more than happy about getting a flat in Dwarka after Mr. Naidu shared how the sub-city is going to become a hub of development work in some years. As for those who failed to receive their allotment letters on Saturday, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials promised to hand them over to them by Monday.
DDA Vice-Chairman Balvinder Kumar announced that those allotted flats from the old inventory can oversee renovation works and it will be ensured that the houses they get are good as new. Allotment of other flats, barring those in Rohini and the old flats, will also take place soon.

That was a question posed by Mr. Naidu, who promised that Delhi will soon become a global city, complete with world-class education, financial and recreational services. A committee will be formed soon to work towards this goal.
“The DDA Act needs amendment. Delhi is the national Capital. We have to make it a global city in the coming days. We should have the best educational and financial institutions from around the world. Why can’t Delhi have a place like Universal Studio? We need to think out-of-the-box. The government will soon form a committee to suggest amendments to the DDA Act. The Government of Spain has promised to share their technical know-how with us to develop Delhi into a global city,” said the Minister.
He also announced that of the 100 smart cities announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi across India, Delhi will be the first to get one in Dwarka.
Mr. Naidu said there is not much demand for houses in Narela as it lacks infrastructure, but the same will be developed very soon and rules for industrial areas in the city will be liberalised to accommodate allied activities.
People who missed out on getting a flat under DDA’s mega housing scheme last year need not lose heart. Instead, they need to wait till 2017, as the DDA will construct one lakh houses by then.
Asking Mr. Kumar to develop one lakh houses by the end of 2015, Mr. Naidu said Mr. Modi wants everyone to own a house.
The DDA V-C shared his concerns, but said: “We will start construction. And flats will be ready by 2017.”
