Crackdown on those burning waste

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Friday said it would crackdown on those burning waste, including leaves, to curb air pollution.

SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel on Friday issued a notification banning the burning of dry leaves, horticulture waste and garbage. This has been done in accordance with the orders of the National Green Tribunal and the High Court.

“In various orders, courts, tribunals had already banned burning of leaves, garbage and green waste,” he added.

The Commissioner directed officials to take action against those found flouting the ban and to prosecute them.
