Crackdown on illegal hoardings

The Capital’s three municipal corporations have cracked down on illegal advertisements that dot Delhi’s streets, in compliance with a High Court order.

In May, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation cancelled 122 permissions for advertisements, removed 17 unipoles and cancelled six contracts for unipoles, brought down 46 flex boards and cut down six iron structures, said Mayor Subhash Arya on Friday.

The SDMC has also filed 54 FIRs for illegal hoardings under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement to Property Act.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has removed 37 unipoles and eight wall-wraps from the beginning of the financial year till May 22. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has removed a total of 15,334 illegal advertisements since April 2014 to date.
