The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Delhi Police to take on deputation police officers hailing from the north-east to act as an interface with the people of that region staying in the Capital.
A Division Bench of Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw passed the direction on a suo motu petition for providing security to the north-eastern migrants here, following the alleged beating to death of 19-year-old Nido Tania of Arunachal Pradesh last week.
The Bench also directed the police to appoint nodal officers in adequate numbers in every police district so that the people of the north-eastern States were made aware of the redress mechanism. The Delhi Police had in 2013 appointed nodal officers in various police districts to look into the problems of the people of the region.

The Bench also directed the city police to interact with the north-eastern people for suggestions to alleviate their grievances. It asked the police to inform it about the number of hospitals where post-mortem was conducted, how many cases on an average were sent for autopsy every day and the time take to perform it and obtaining reports.
