Couple held for con act, Bunty-Babli style

April 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - New Delhi:

A young couple has been arrested for duping several persons by threatening to implicate them in false molestation cases, the police said on Monday.

Vinod, 28, and his companion Shalu, 26, would mainly look out for cash-laden men in markets where it was easy to get physically close to them.

Sensing an opportunity, Shalu would intentionally bump into her targets. Within seconds, Vinod would confront the targeted man who would allege he molested Shalu.

“The woman, too, would arrive there immediately and start crying foul and create a scene. Before the victim could even understand what was going on, Shalu would pull out a blade and threaten to slit her wrist and implicate him further,” said Madhur Verma, DCP (North).

Vinod, meanwhile, would urge the victim to hand over cash and get over with the problem.

Afraid of being framed in a false case, most victims would give in to the blackmail, said the police.

The first of these complaints was received at Bara Hindu Rao police station 10 days ago.

The victim Rahul Singh was on his way home via Azad Market Road after collecting his weekly salary of Rs.8,000 when the suspected duo intercepted him and duped him of his cash.

The second such incident was reported five days later when a courier delivery boy was robbed of the collected amount of Rs.9,000 in the same style.

Suspecting both the crimes to be the handiwork of the same gang, the North Delhi district police formed a team that analysed the crime pattern and visited the two crime spots.

However, following a tip-off that the suspects would arrive at Pul Mithai, the duo was nabbed and interrogated during which they confessed to their involvement in such crimes, said the police.
