Thirty-four-year-old constable Chander Vijay, who is posted in Sarojini Nagar, was on patrol around 10 p.m. when he spotted two young men sitting in a Santro car parked by the road in Netaji Subhash Nagar market and asked them to go away. As soon as the constable left, the two young men followed him in the car and hit his motorcycle from behind on Brig. Hoshiar Singh Marg. The constable fell on the road and the two young men came out of their car and allegedly attacked him with hammers.

Local resident Rajesh Kumar, who happened to pass by, came to the rescue of the constable and tried to sort out the matter.
