He was allegedly abducted from Roop Nagar last week

Contradictions have emerged in the claims made by Jain guru Gani Ranjendra Vijay, who was allegedly “abducted” from Roop Nagar before being “rescued” from Ludhiana as his location was traced to Alipur.

Devotee’s version

A senior police officer said the guru claimed he was kidnapped from Roop Nagar in north district in a car. However, a police investigation on the digital footprint and the purported version of a devotee, who claimed to have accompanied the guru till Alipur, brought a few contradictions to the fore.

It is learnt that when confronted with the discrepancies, the guru admitted to have gone to Alipur.

“After he reportedly went missing, we had sent police teams to Ludhiana, Sonipat and Baghpat. Three persons have been detained in the case so far, and the case is under investigation. In order to find out the drug that the Jain guru was allegedly administered by the kidnappers, the police have sent blood samples to a laboratory,” the officer added.

He added that the guru is not cooperating with the police and has refused to answers many questions. He has asked investigators to close the case as he does not want to pursue it and that he would opt to forgive the abductors.

Found in Ludhiana

He had allegedly gone missing on October 12 before being found in Ludhiana in the morning on October 14. A case of kidnapping was registered at Roop Nagar police station.

After being rescued, he told the police that he was stopped by an acquaintance on the pretext of discussing an issue while he was on his way to the ashram in Roop Nagar.

He was then allegedly injected with some sedative and kidnapped. The sedation allegedly caused him to lose track of events thereafter until he regained his senses and found himself abandoned by the roadside in the Punjab city.
