Protesting against the fuel price hike, Delhi Congress workers on Thursday formed a human chain from Mandi House crossing to Parliament, slamming the Centre and Delhi government.
In an extension of the Congress’s ongoing campaign against the increase in excise and VAT on petrol and diesel, the protest was mostly attended by party workers. However, some street vendors and common public also joined in, said a Delhi Congress statement.
Speaking to party workers, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party were responsible for the hike in fuel prices as the Centre had increased excise duty and the Delhi government had hiked VAT.

From May 2014, when the BJP came to power, till now, the excise duty on petrol and diesel had been increased 11 times, said Mr. Maken.
He added that the AAP government in Delhi had hiked VAT twice. These decisions, he said, had led to the rise in prices of petrol and diesel despite the price of crude oil falling in the international market.
Last week, the Delhi Congress had conducted a signature campaign at petrol pumps across the city to collect 10 lakh signatures against the price hikes. Mr. Maken said the party would continue to protest against the hike.
