Ruling out an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party yet again, Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit on Saturday said her party would contest all seven parliamentary seats in the Capital and the process of selecting “winnable” candidates has already begun.
The Congress’s chosen candidates, Ms. Dikshit said, would be a mix of old and new faces as well former legislators. The former Chief Minister reiterated her party’s stance amid recurring speculation over the possibility of an alliance with AAP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
“There will be no alliance [with AAP],” said Ms. Dikshit. The ruling AAP, too, has asserted on its part that it will independently contest the elections in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.

The party may have some loss or benefit in the absence of an alliance and it would “pay attention” to the issue, said Ms. Dikshit. “We will contest all the seven seats ourselves. A lot of names are there but we need winnable candidates. There will be some old faces, some new ones and some former MLAs,” she said. The names of probable candidates will be sent to the central party leadership for screening after a cut-off date which is yet to be decided, she added.
Ms. Dikshit accused the AAP government of “misleading” people on its performance and claimed that the voters of Delhi will give their reply in the elections.
The Congress has a “good chance” of victory in Delhi, she said, adding that “losing and winning elections is a part of democracy”.
