Congress tells L-G to initiate CBI inquiry

‘Delhi govt had inflated cost of the project’

The Congress on Monday asked for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the Delhi government’s proposed project for installing 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras in the city, alleging corruption in the project.

A delegation of Congress leaders, including Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken met Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal and handed him a memorandum seeking a CBI inquiry into the ₹571 crore project.

After the meeting, Mr. Maken said the AAP government had inflated the project cost from ₹130 crore to ₹571 crore and favoured Chinese company Hikvision which will be supplying the cameras to Bharat Electronics Limited, the public sector undertaking that won the contract.

Mr. Maken said that L-G told the Congress leaders that he had not received any proposal of the Cabinet for the project.
