Ajay Maken, the president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), observed a ‘maun vrath’ [vow of silence] at Rajghat on Sunday demanding that an FIR be registered against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
Joined by other Congress workers, Mr. Maken later said though the Shunglu Committee report had unearthed many serious cases of corruption and irregularities by the Delhi government, strangely, no FIR had been filed.

‘Centre sitting on report’

Mr. Maken said the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government had been complacent in taking action against those held guilty as per the findings of the report. The DPCC president alleged that the Central government had been sitting on the report for six months before he could get a copy of it through an RTI application. Questioning the delay on part of the Central government in acting against the Arvind Kejriwal government, he said the BJP was trying to protect the Delhi government.
Mr. Maken said the Delhi unit of the Congress had held the ‘maun vrath’ at Rajghat to apologise to the Father of the Nation since Mr. Kejriwal and Anna Hazare had “misused” his name to start their anti-corruption movement from the spot.
“Those who started the anti-corruption crusade have been caught in serious corruption cases themselves. They have developed such thick skins that serious corruption charges seem to have made no difference to them,” said Mr. Maken.

Action against Kalmadi
He added that he was the Union Sports Minister when the Shunglu Committee probed corruption charges related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games and submitted a report to him. Mr. Maken said he had responded by immediately initiating action against Suresh Kalmadi, with an FIR being filed.
