A 20-year-old Congolese girl was allegedly raped by two cloth vendors at her residence in Malviya Nagar here on Friday. No arrests have been made and the police are yet to establish the identity of the suspects.
In her complaint to the police, the girl said the incident took place around 12-30 p.m. when she was alone at home. The cloth vendors knocked at the door of her rented accommodation at Hauz Rani in Malviya Nagar.
“She told us that she wanted to buy some clothes and let the vendors in. While displaying the apparels, they overpowered her. They gagged her and took turns to rape her,” said a police officer.

The accused then fled the house. The victim raised an alarm and with the help of her neighbours approached the police. A case of rape was registered.
The police recorded the victim’s statement and sent her for medical examination.
However, a senior police officer said there were discrepancies in her statement and she had changed her version of the incident.

“We have gone through the footage of the CCTV cameras installed at the entrance of the building where the girl lives, but no cloth vendors were seen,” said a senior police officer.
Sources claimed that the woman had earlier threatened to implicate her landlord in a rape case.
Meanwhile, some of her acquaintances staged a demonstration against the police in the evening. They were pacified after senior police officers intervened.
This past fortnight has seen a spurt in crime against foreign nationals in the two South Delhi districts. On the day of Holi, three foreign nationals were molested at Saket while a few days earlier a German woman was allegedly molested and robbed in Lajpat Nagar. Last month, an Estonian national living in Defence Colony had accused another foreign national of stalking her.
