Complaint filed against imposter doctor at AIIMS

‘He did not have an identity card’

The chief security officer at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) noted in a police complaint on Monday that “a person came to the main emergency [in the morning] pretending to be a faculty [member] at the AIIIMS Trauma Centre in the Department of Orthopaedics”.

The complaint added that “he did not have an identity card. When asked for details, he was unable to give a satisfactory reply and immediately left the emergency [unit]. Prime facie it appears that he is an imposter...”.

Not the first time

The police said they had received a complaint and were looking into the matter. “The complaint was submitted by Vijay Gujjar of AIIMS. It is being enquired into to examine if any criminal offence is made out. CCTV footage is being examined to identify the accused,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya.

This is not the first time that doctors at AIIMS have caught imposters in the hospital.

Vijay Kumar of the AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association said, “Another fake doctor was caught in AIIMS emergency unit around 9.30 a.m. on Monday. This raises serious questions about security at this premier institute, which caters to people from all over the country. This person who was caught on Monday was not even an MBBS doctor. Enquiry has revealed that he would go to other hospitals in the city [he was caught at Hindu Rao Hospital in August 2017] and claim he was a doctor at AIIMS.”
