Cockroaches were found in water bottles supplied to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation’s headquarters in Patparganj on Tuesday.

The pests managed to get into the 20-litre bottles supplied to the Education Committee’s office, officials said. EDMC Standing Committee member and Congress councillor Savita Sharma has raised the issue with the municipal secretary.

She said when the bottles were delivered to the secretary, the seals were intact and live cockroaches were inside them.

It was a shame that the corporation could not ensure clean drinking water, Ms. Sharma added.

“We will investigate the matter and take necessary action against the supplier,” said EDMC spokesperson Y.S. Mann.

The Congress councillorsaid if the corporation could not provide safe water at its headquarters then the services provided to east Delhi residents must be deplorable.
