‘Changing statement’

“We have detained five persons, including the prime suspect, for questioning,” said Greater Noida police station SHO Ram Bhawan Singh. Meanwhile, sources said the teenager has been changing her statement constantly. “She has given different statements to the doctor, the Magistrate and the police. We are verifying the allegations,” said a senior officer.

The police said the juvenile and the victim’s distant cousin had allegedly offered to drop her home in a car after she missed the school bus. The girl had alleged that the trio — her relative, the classmate and another boy — later gagged and raped her. They forced her to consume a drink laced with sedatives, after which she fell unconscious. “When she failed to return home, her parents reported the matter to the police. She was found unconscious near Galgotia College in Knowledge Park around 2 a.m.,” said a police officer.

“She was taken to a nearby hospital and discharged after first aid. Based on a complaint by her father and her statement, a case under Section 376D [gang-rape] of IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered,” said a senior officer.
