A Delhi resident died after she fell off a cliff while taking a selfie at Matheran in Maharashtra on Tuesday evening, the police said on Wednesday.
The police said the couple had stepped outside the railing at Louisa Point to click the photograph.
Sarita Chauhan had come to the hill station on a four-day tour with her husband and three children. The family had been in Maharashtra since June 1. The Matheran Police said Sarita was taking a selfie with her husband around 6 p.m. when she lost her balance and fell down the 900-foot valley.

“Her husband said she lost her balance due to strong gusts of wind and fell off the cliff,” Senior Inspector Mahadeao Acharekar.
“The husband said in his statement that they had stepped outside the railing on the cliff to take a selfie. There is an area of nearly one-metre outside the railing and then the 900-foot valley. The husband was standing in front to take the picture. As he clicked the selfie, Sarita fell into the valley,” Mr. Acharekar said.

The couple and their three children, aged 14, 10 and 4 years, had been staying in Pune with Sarita’s brother.
The family had been travelling to various places with her brother’s family, including Mahabaleshwar and Neral.
The couple reached Matheran around 1 p.m. on Tuesday while Sarita’s brother returned to Pune. The couple reached Louisa Point around 6 p.m. They went to take a selfie, while the children were playing nearby.
The police, the Sahyadri rescue team and adivasis conducted a search operation after the incident. Sarita’s body was found early on Wednesday.
Sarita was a homemaker, while her husband is a painting contractor from Tughlakabad in Delhi.
