CISF modifies baggage check at metro stations

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has modified baggage checking and passenger frisking at stations across the Delhi Metro network.

The CISF is entrusted with providing security at Delhi Metro Rail Corporation stations across the city.

Improving security

In an attempt to improve security at metro stations, baggage scanners have now been placed before the metal frame detectors, against the earlier practice of keeping them after the metal detectors, after people were frisked.

“We have changed the locations of the X-ray machines that check baggage at metro stations wherever possible. We keep making such changes to provide more fool-proof security for Delhi Metro passengers,” said a CISF spokesperson.

According to agency reports, security personnel scanning stations close to hospitals will soon be equipped with hand gloves and masks to improve “overall health and hygiene” of commuters and CISF personnel.

The move is also important because several commuters at these stations are undergoing medical treatment.

The force has also increased the frequency of deployment of its plainclothes personnel to keep a check on suspicious elements in and around the metro stations.
