Children’s Literature Festival ends

Aimed at building passion for reading among kids, parents

Parents and children at a workshop during the second edition of the two-day Children’s Literature Festival in Gurugram.

The second edition of the two-day Children’s Literature Festival, aimed at building passion for reading among children and parents, ended here on Sunday.

The festival, held by Vega Schools, saw the participation of renowned author and commentator Gurcharan Das. The event also featured other personalities renowned in the world of literature and storytelling, including award-winning children’s authors, storytellers, theatre artists and published illustrators.

‘Directional change’

Festival founder Avishek Roy said, “We need a directional change to move our children away from gadgets and malls, and bring them close to reading and storytelling.”

Exciting sessions were conducted during the festival for children in the age groups of 3-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-12 years, and their parents.

Day One of the festival saw engaging sessions on storytelling for children of different age groups in different forms like music, dance, drama, reading and writing, and puppetry.

Cartoon sketches

Apart from storytelling, creative workshops and activities related to art and craft, and reading and writing were also organised.

Cartoonist Ajit Narayan conducted a workshop on cartoon sketches for children in the age group of 7-9 years.

Day Two of the festival saw exciting storytelling sessions and a puppet-making workshop for children in the age groups of 3-6 years. The storytelling session was conducted by Kathalaya founder Geeta Ramanujam.

She also undertook a storytelling master class for parents to help them understand the art of storytelling. A fun poetry-writing workshops was conducted for children in the age group of 10-12 years.
