Sent to prosecuting department for scrutiny, legal opinion

The Delhi Police on Friday told the Supreme Court that a chargesheet has been prepared in the case relating to the death of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar, and that the report has been sent to the prosecuting department for scrutiny and legal opinion.

The three-page affidavit was submitted in the court by DCP (South) Romil Baaniya, who is supervising the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe.

The Delhi Police stated that the SIT has prepared a draft police report under Section 173 of the CrPC “after conducting thorough professional and scientific investigations”. It added that once the report is vetted by the prosecution department, the chargesheet will be submitted before the competent trial court for consideration and concomitant judicial proceedings.

“After consultation with the prosecution, it will be decided under which sections of law the chargesheet will be filed,” said Deependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police and chief spokesperson of the Delhi Police.

Ms. Pushkar was found dead in a suite of a five-star hotel in Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014.
